The project explores the palpability of air through color as media.
Speaking is the circulation of air inside and outside our body. The recordings playing out of the cassette players voice out a polyphony of voices speaking about the same color in different languages. The tapes play out of the pillars of the building that are respectively painted green and yellow, as the building also expresses color non-verbally.
The balloon is a model of air and makes sound with the flow of air. The balloon carries the air inside, the air from vents carries the balloon, and the room with the colored walls carries us. Are we inside the balloon? Thus, the project asks where the air or breath come from? How do we interact with air through our movement outside and inside the body? The project also responds to the existing environment of Carpenter Center and reveals the constraints of human management on the agency of things, since the air coming out of the vents is uncontrollable. Moreover, the likelihood of a balloon exploding also shows the contrast of control and destruction, as well as the borders of language that is something that has been used as a barrier and disconnection as well as violence, as well as being something that connects us, contains beauty and is overwhelming all at the same time.
